Julian Alps and Lakes is a wonderful eight day family vacation in the most amazing locations in Slovenia. Start in Ljubljana, the beautiful capital of Slovenia and explore its baroque buildings, charming squares, famous Dragon Bridge on Ljubljanica River and visit local market for some tasty local treats.
Transfer to Lake Bled and take a pletna boat ride to St. Mary’s island. Hike to the lake’s highest point and ring the wishing bell.
Next, take a full day hiking excursion to Triglav National Park and enjoy the breath in all the fresh air while you enjoy the stunning views of the Triglav lakes.

Day 1: Arrive Ljubljana
Arrive to Ljubljana, Slovenia. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Hotel Cubo, Ljubljana, (B)
Day 2: Ljubljana
Stroll through the Old Town district in the company of a local expert guide. Explore the baroque town building, the colorful farmer’s market, and discover the cathedral of St. Nicholas. Walk across Dragon Bridge, an Art Nouveau masterpiece adorned with dragons and symbol of Ljubljana. Then walk beside the majestic Ljubljanica River, to the centrally located Prešernov Trg. A charming, family-run business with four shops in the city, Čokoladnica Cukrček has been delighting adults and making children incredibly happy for a decade and a half. Among many fine chocolate samples, you will find adorable a wooden souvenir box filled with Ljubljana dragons, fruit covered in chocolate and even chocolate flavored with salt. Set amid rolling hills, Tivoli Park is a pleasant mixture of lawns, pastures, wooded areas and fun adventure playgrounds for kids (who will love the mini-golf best of all). Day 3: Ljubljana/Bled
Today we depart to the stunningly beautiful Lake Bled. You won’t believe the amazing views of this pristine Alpine resort! We’ll take a “pletna” boat ride to St. Mary’s Island. And while there, we will admire the renowned church that was built into the rock impregnating this small island. Now get your walking shoes out! For our energetic guide will take you up ninety-nine steps to reach the lake’s highest point and to experience other spectacular views. If you still have energy remaining, do not forget to ring the church’s “wishing bell,” which is rumored to bring everyone good luck! Hotel Toplice, Bled, (B)
Day 4: Bled/Triglav/Bled
Today is reserved for an exciting hiking excursion. In the heart of the Triglav National Park lies the valley of the seven Triglav lakes, the homeland of the mythological white mountain-goat Zlatorog. The ancient trails of shepherds lead us through high alpine forests into the world of herdsmen and their rustic wooden cottages. Hiking deeper in to the valley you enter into an oasis of untouched primeval nature that embraces its visitors with innocence, silence and exuberant beauty. Your efforts are rewarded with beautiful scenery – mountain peaks in the crystal clear waters of the Triglav lakes. Hotel Toplice, Bled, (B)
Day 5: Bled/Bohinj
Spend the full day visiting the nearby Lake Bohinj. Here you will have the opportunity to see the source of the river Sava Bohinjka, the Savica waterfall or to enjoy a bird’s eye view of Lake Bohinj from Mt. Vogel. A short journey through the Bohinj Valley will take you to part of the valley called Ukanc. From here you can either make a short climb to be rewarded with an impressive view of the 78 m waterfall (optional), or take a cable car (optional) to Mt. Vogel where you have the impression that you can almost touch the peaks of Julian Alps. Also included is a boat ride across the lake to the other end – Ribčev Laz, where you will have time for lunch. The journey back will take us through the villages of the Upper Bohinj Valley. Hotel Toplice, Bled, (B)
Day 6: Bled/Postojna/Predjama/Portorož
This excursion is to yet another natural wonder, the underground world of the Postojna Caves. These caves are filled with spectacular limestone stalactites and stalagmites which form pillars and take on fantastic shapes and form. On a guided walking tour accompanied by the local expert, you can almost imagine yourself in another world. The culmination is small train ride that takes you to the heart of the underground fairyland. A few kilometers away you will visit one of the most magnificent buildings in Slovenia, the Predjama Castle, dating back to the middle ages, but keeping its secrets until today. The most famous owner was Erazem Predjamski, a hero in many local legends. Kempinski Palace, Portorož, (B)
Day 7: Portorož/Lipica/Portorož
In the picturesque village of Lipica, for more than 400 years, beautiful white horses called Lipizzaner have been bred. A local guide will take you on a guided through the stables, pointing out the different stages of breeding and training these noble animals. Day 8: Portorož/Venice or Ljubljana
Depart for Venice or Ljubljana airport.
